Dance uplifts, entertains, inspires, grows community spirit, and fosters creativity for everyone. Based in Kjipuktuk/Halifax, Phin Performing Arts is a contemporary dance performance company dedicated to creating moving dance and multi-disciplinary works for the stage, and providing immersive and educational experiences in movement arts. A dancer, choreographer, producer and educator with a side hustle in scientific research, Artistic Director Lisa Phinney Langley’s explorations in both the arts and science are driven by a curiosity about the fabric of our existence and the threads that connect our experiences with the natural laws of the universe. Often collaborative and multi-disciplinary, Phin’s work is dynamic, precise, and rich in visual imagery, with undertones in mystery and spirituality. Notable works have explored the environmental pressures threatening the common loon (Analogy for Solid Bones, nominated for the 2010 Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor’s Masterworks Award, and Gavia), quantum physics (Entangled), personal origins (Weissberg 9), and how we come to establish identity (Masquerade). The Three Questions is Phin’s first work specifically for young audiences.
